I was down at the hospital for some tests yesterday morning, and things ran much longer than I thought. Some three hours after I arrived, I was finally leaving and despite being minutes away from being late for work, I grabbed a cab and made him take me to the grocery store so I could get something to eat -- I had been fasting since 9pm the night before. I flew in the door of the office about 15 seconds before I was due to arrive and looked around to see to whom I should offer my apology.
The boss was away. The associate was away. I, it would seem, was in charge.
Well then... so much for rushing. The next thing I discovered was that the parish council chair had emailed his regrets for tonight's meeting. With the pastor away as well, I decided we should cancel the meeting since I don't believe there are enough urgent matters to discuss without the two most knowledgeable people away. That gives me the side benefit of having the night off, a double bonus since this was one of three late nights I was to have this week.
Instead, I'm off and will enjoy a nice, quiet evening on my own. Finally.
Sometimes I like being the boss.
