Christmas Dim Sum

Tuesday, December 2, 2008
We went for our staff Christmas party this afternoon for dim sum. Only one person among us is really a Chinese food connoisseur; I can count on one hand the number of times I have been for dim sum, but the expert in our group sent the little menu around and told us each to pick a dish instead of heeding my advice to choose for us. I might as well have thrown a dart since I didn't recognize most of the dishes. I picked some BBQ pork buns, which I did enjoy. Otherwise, the assortment of foods that came our way were not exactly conducive to someone who cannot, for medical reasons, eat anything deep fried and who doesn't particularly enjoy fish, especially shrimp. We even had a few desserts thrown into the mix without knowing what they were when we ordered them. I ate a few things, though, and at one point, asked the associate pastor what he was eating.

"I don't know," he admitted. He continued, "It's slimy. It doesn't taste all that great." He finished his thought, "Do you want some?"

I laughed, "You really know how to sell a dish, Father!" and declined politely.

The pastor sent us all home afterwards as a token of appreciation for our hard work during the year, and I used the time to have a nap before I go out tonight to a show.

Since my husband is the bookkeeper at a church in another city - we are off next Friday evening to their Christmas dinner.

My once a year portion of prime rib.

YUM!
