Merry and Blessed Christmas!

Wednesday, December 24, 2008
I have been reading the Little Blue Book from the Diocese of Saginaw over the Advent season. Their Christmas reflection asks us to reflect on what we do when we are holding an infant. We look straight into the child's face and silently speak of wonder and love that cannot be put into words. We speak unintelligible words as we purse our lips and kiss the child from a distance. We cradle and rock the child in our arms while we immerse ourselves in the preciousness of the moment. The author then asks us to realize that others held us that way as infants, and God did too. God continues to hold us that way now, especially in those times when things are not going well for us.

Remember the great love that God has for you at this time of year, and rejoice that God sent his only Son to become a little child, born into the poorest of conditions, who would be humiliated and executed in order to provide salvation for all of us.

To all of you who share this part of my life, I wish each and every one of you a very happy and blessed Christmas season.
