I'm not sure what is more horrifying -- the fact that two of the 12 year olds in my First Reconciliation classes did not know either the Our Father or the Hail Mary, or the fact that when I dragged them over to my office to print them a copy of each to memorize, they saw me type into Google Search:
Hail Marty.
Oops.

If they are taking a Reconciliation course - does this mean that they are in a special program - not the Gr. 2 school/parish program??

These are kids who slipped through the cracks - went to non-Catholic schools, don't have Mass-attending parents, moved here from far away and missed the sacramental years at school. I decided to offer some "catch-up" classes for them so they are able to receive these sacraments now and prepare for other upcoming ones in the near future. Their knowledge, at times, does border on the pathetic...
