The pastor assigned me a word processing task this afternoon. Normally I can get these things done in seconds, but this time, everything seemed to go wrong. Photocopies sent remotely came out backwards. Paper fed crooked into the photocopier, leaving a misshapen looking document. Locally, the borders got chopped off by my own printer. Finally getting two clean originals to work with nearly 45 minutes later, the photocopier misfed the paper and jammed. Infuriated, I pulled at least seven sheets out, and yet it was still beeping at me that there was something stuck. I was on my knees, completely exasperated, when the pastor walked by. I cited a litany of troubles with machines, including the latest with the photocopier I still hadn't managed to untangle, and he got down on his knees to help.
As he searched for paper and finally slammed the photocopier back together again, rendering it useful once more, he smiled: "Sometimes, you must use violence."
