I was standing in Mass this morning, just after the Creed, and there was an awkward gap in the Mass as the presider introduced the Prayers of the Faithful and no one went forward to offer the petitions.
I thought to myself as I looked around annoyed, "Which dumb reader is asleep at the switch?"
Just then it hit me -- I was the dumb reader.
The rest of the day was, unfortunately, downhill from there...

I sympathize!
Our choir sits in the front. When that happens all heads in the choir turn towards the second reader as they sit nearer to our choir. They usually jump up pretty fast, when 10 people are all staring at him/her with this look of "HELLO, anyone home!"
