Not Quite Manic Monday

I had a hard time getting going today. After such a nice break away from the place, and the new vibe around the office, I wasn't quite sure where to start. I ended up taking things as they came at me naturally -- dealing with emails as they came in, handling phone calls as they raised new issues for me to think about, and I finally got around to thinking about some of the major events I have in the offing, thus I was inspired to put out a few related fires like missing documentation and where on earth I am going to find an 8 foot high screen on six days' notice.

At one point the pastor came in and asked, "What kind of cross should we put on the paschal candle? It's time to order it."

I didn't know we had a choice, so my surprised response was actually a question, "What are our options?"

He left to get me a brochure, I assume, but never returned, as is his wont. So, I still don't know what our options might have been. I'm sure he'll figure it out on his own.

The associate seemed to be having the opposite problem as me. I couldn't get going and he couldn't stop going. Because I stayed in for lunch, I noticed him leaving to head out for his daily swim. He walked briskly past my office door, right out the front door. Moments later, I heard a key in the door and he was back into his office carrying some mail he had acquired. He spun around and back out the door again. A second time I heard the key in the door and he barreled back into his office for something else. The third time he walked past my door, he caught me smiling. He said, "It often takes me three tries before I leave."

I did finalize a resolution tonight on the way home: I picked up my shiny new library card. I have yet to take out a book, but will do so after I finish the pile others have lent to me.
