Ash Wednesday Mass and Christmas

Today was a much better day. I attended a very good ecumenical meeting of similarly employed people in the area and I think we're going to be a good support - emotionally, practically, spiritually, etc. - to each other. I offered to host the next meeting and hooked us up with a location.

When I returned to the office, it was just about time for Ash Wednesday Mass to begin. Imagine my surprise when I saw our entire parish school piling in, as well as every other Catholic, lapsed and not, in the neighbourhood. I sat right behind the grade 1s with the Parish Council president as seating was rapidly becoming limited. I know one of the little boys in that class from our Homework Club, who turned around, spotted me, and called out, "Hi Miss!" I smiled and waved back. One of the other little kids said, "Who's that?" and he replied, "She's my girlfriend." He kept looking back, smiling and waving sporadically throughout Mass. It was very cute even though I was inwardly thinking, "Oh no..."

In the afternoon the woman who had the altercation with me last night called and eventually asked to talk to me. I put on my most plastic smile so it would come through the phone and assured her she could have what she wanted. We left the conversation on good terms so hopefully that will be the end of the incident.

I also managed to get a lot of other little things done because mercifully, coming at just the right time, I am off tomorrow. It's my lieu time for working on Christmas Day. My mother asked me this morning how it feels to have celebrated Ash Wednesday today, only to be celebrating Christmas tomorrow. I just hope I get some presents. ;)
