One good thing about being as crazy busy as I am now is that it is impossible to get bored. Thus, the days go very quickly. Today was no different. I came into my office 30 minutes early because I needed to head down to the diocese to pick up some money and some supplies virtually first thing. That visit went rather smoothly given they (surprisingly) didn't seem to know that's what I was there about, though I thought my message made that pretty clear. Anyway, after a few minutes of digging in back closets and storerooms, they did find what I wanted and I arranged to come back with a vehicle to take it all as it was too much to handle on public transit. I also swung by a bookstore to arrange a selling deal for them that was perilously close to falling through because of the death of the owner of the store, so that was a relief to have that tied up within a few hours.
When I returned to the office I realized just how swamped I really was so I decided to work through lunch. I accomplished a lot without phones and emails beeping at me. Later I prepared myself mentally to lead the Stations of the Cross for two of our classes at the school in the afternoon, which also was a very positive experience and turned into a request to do some more class visits to talk about the saints, so I was incredibly pleased about that.
Tomorrow I need to spend most of my time planning a retreat, which the boss insisted gets done this week - during my busiest week yet, though it is not something we will actually execute for another 2.5 months. Oh well.
I had to chuckle at a conversation I had with the boss while out and about recently. We were talking about the economy and how it is hitting people very hard but I said to reassure him, "At least you know they won't fire you!" Then he started fake crying and muttering, "Please, fire me! Fire me now!" He suggested he might start saying awful things to people to get himself fired, but I convinced him that wouldn't work. He finally admitted he is stuck where he is right now.
I guess, despite my busyness, I have one thing to be grateful for -- I'm not a pastor!
