Good Sunday

Today was a good day. I finished my penultimate parental meeting, I felt like I really got through to a couple of the kids in my youth group, and things more or less clicked today.

Last week, I made sure to thank everyone who was involved in helping me to execute the big diocesan event I ran. That meant everyone got a thank you note as a minimum. Some people really went above and beyond, lending us expensive things and giving up their whole days to help me out, and so those people got a little something extra -- a box of chocolates, a gift certificate, a promise of dinner on me, or something else appropriate to their level of assistance and the status of our relationship.

Given that the boss gave up the equivalent of one full day driving me around and doing some serious physical labour, as well as putting on dinner for five guests including myself that night, I wanted to make sure I didn't leave him out. I left a gift card to a bookstore on his desk, along with a thank you note saying how much I appreciated his support and kindness.

I heard nothing at all from him. I just shrugged and figured he must have got it and forgotten about it.

So, I had to laugh when I got into the office this morning. I found a gift card on my desk along with a thank you note from him, signed with his last name, thanking me for helping with our Marriage Course. The gift card was worth 4 times the amount I gave him. I was a bit embarrassed by it, and I really couldn't muster up the courage to say anything about it when I saw him, so I just fired him off an email before I left saying it was completely unnecessary, but appreciated nonetheless. I was just doing my job. Oh well. I shall enjoy shopping on his dime.
