We had another interesting school Mass today, where the presider told a story about a very selfish, mean-spirited woman who had done nothing good but give one onion to a beggar in her life. St. Peter refused her entry to heaven, but she pointed out the onion as her one good act, so St. Peter agreed to lower her down to hell on the end of the onion and bring her back up to heaven again. If the onion didn't break, she would be allowed to stay. Others in hell saw this and grabbed her legs as St. Peter started lifting her back up towards heaven. Eventually, too many people clung to her and she screamed, "This is my onion! Let go!" and the onion broke under the weight, sending them all into hell. His point: be nice to others.
The principal got up after Mass and thanked the presider for his "hellfire and brimstone" homily, which the children don't get to hear very often.
God help us all.
