Back to Work - For Real This Time

Tuesday, May 19, 2009
I went back to the office for the first time since my surgery today. I received unexpected welcomes from people I didn't even realize knew I had been gone, and one very funny hello from a colleague who noted, "You don't look any different." I paused a moment before I responded, "Not on the outside, but I am short an organ on the inside." (!)

My desk wasn't as much of a disaster area as I feared, and I suspect someone was looking after my phone messages for me or else I am just one of the least popular people in the world -- I was shocked that I didn't have a single voicemail. I had been keeping up with my emails remotely but there wasn't anything too exciting there either. Mostly I just have some paperwork to do wrapping up the sacramental celebrations I took care of before I left, and one fire to put out with regards to a retreat this coming weekend.

I stayed there and brought my lunch because I thought the walk home would take too much out of me, so I stuck around for most of the day before I really started to fade. By about 3pm I finally approached the boss and told him I was needing to utilize the modified hours part of my doctor's note, and he sent me on my way. I came home, crashed, ate, and am starting to feel a little better again.
