Vimpa: The veil worn over altar servers' shoulders and around their hands as they bear the pontificalia (the crozier and mitre) for the bishop.

Add this one to the list of things I never knew before I entered this job... and things I hope I don't witness in use at tonight's Confirmation. I've been told they may instead wear white gloves. If so, hopefully the bishop will bring them himself; all I have available is latex.

(Vimpa, as I learned from Google images, is also a really, really ugly fish.)
