Ordination Weekend

Monday, June 29, 2009
I spent the weekend at the presbyteral ordination of two friends, and this time around, stuck around for both of their first Masses.

The ordination ceremony was very beautiful and wonderfully crowded. A few people from my region made the trip, including one of our professors with her roommate, a deacon from another order, and the choir director who took over after I left the Faculty.

The reception post-ordination was very lovely and well-attended. There was a joke made at the reception about how one of the ordinand's confreres was always jealous because the ordinand was constantly surrounded by women, many of whom were present that day. We all laughed and eyed each other - it was true!

The first Masses were quite well done. The first one showed liturgical perfection already, with a sung Eucharistic Prayer and a homily given by the ordinand himself. The second one was a little less polished but in a very charming way, and featured yet another sung Eucharistic Prayer. I leaned over to my deacon friend next to me and asked, "Are you going to sing your first Mass too?" He laughed and said, "Not unless I get some voice lessons!"

A really great weekend, and I am so proud of my friends. I am so grateful I could participate.

It would have been great to see you, but I did pass on your regards to all involved, including AZ.
