The boss came into my office yesterday and said that we needed to have a planning meeting, just him and me. I told him I was unscheduled the next two days, so just say the word.
He said the word this morning and came in to drop about 7 or 8 of his incomplete tasks onto my shoulders. Planning to him, it seems, means delegation. Fortunately I am not too overwhelmed right now and can incorporate his requests. I spent the rest of the day working on his "plannings".
We also discussed the results of a contest I have been running in the parish. I came to one conclusion and he disagreed. After much discussion, I reluctantly agreed with his choice. I left the meeting and got into conversation with the secretary to ask her to run the results in the bulletin. When she saw the two options, she was shocked I didn't choose the one I had originally selected. I went back to the boss and said I had second thoughts about my agreement, and tried to change his mind back to my choice. He threw up his arms and said he couldn't talk about it and would decide later. Funny, I thought it was my contest...
I had been looking forward all day to meeting a friend who has been remarkably elusive for the past six months and counting. As I was heading downtown she left me a voicemail that she had been paged to her job, but told me to hang around in the area and she would be along as quickly as possible. An hour and twenty minutes later, she called back and couldn't leave after all. While I understand things come up and work comes first, I couldn't help but feeling a little bit peeved about waiting so long, wasting my time and once again not getting to see her.
Very frustrating day all around.
