I did put my foot down about one thing. The boss came in and asked me to attend a dinner at a parishioner's home next week on my day off. I told him no. He asked why, and I looked right at him and said, "I have a personal life." He looked a little befuddled and instead suggested we go after Easter instead. He doesn't seem to realize that this is an incredibly busy time for me, probably the most busy I will be all year. While the thought is very nice to invite us to dinner, it has to come at a less insane time, and not on my day off.
One Day To Go
Despite being existentially tired today, I managed to do a whole heck of a lot of work on things that aren't really happening for quite a while. I did 40 First Communion certificates, 47 Confirmation certificates, printed and cut out 50 Confirmation Mass flame nametags and printed 50 Confirmation Retreat stick-on nametags. I helped a friend unload a van full of materials for the diocesan event tomorrow night, fielded lots of questions (though the diocesan newspaper has my phone number SO wrong -- only the area code is right -- I have no idea how people keep finding me anyway.) I asked the boss to help me get the materials out of the church basement, but he refused, saying he would ask the caretaker to do so in the morning. Hopefully that actually transpires but I won't hold my breath. We're just over 24 hours away now.
