Exhaustion...

Sunday, September 28, 2008
My church-wide event went very well today, despite some earlier concern when one of our preachers stood at the pulpit and denounced the evils of the social sin of gambling, including bingo, in his Sunday sermon. I teased him mercilessly about this afterwards, saying he just had to pick this weekend to say that -- the very day we would be holding a bingo game on site, in addition to other events. He laughed and apologized, admitting he quite liked bingo himself.

It turned out that bingo was one of our most popular activities. About 50 people, give or take, showed up. The other organizers were almost as nervous as I was when, twenty minutes in, there were only five people on site from the general population, but within an hour our numbers had swelled and people were eating, laughing and playing together. I gave my camera to my boss who ran around and took 77 (!) pictures of the afternoon's events. Everyone pitched in and cleaned up, so what took me almost 3.5 hours to set up was put away in under forty minutes.

Now I need a nap... perhaps until Thursday...

First time event - 50 people is very good!
You should do an Advent gathering - like the Daughters of St. Paul do.
They have colouring pages and activities for the children and they sing Happy Birthday to Jesus with a Betty Crocker cake and the kids blow out the candle.
The families dress up in Christmas outfits like Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels for a family picture with the large Jesus in the crib.
St. Nicholas comes out and talks to the kids.

The more you do the less tired you will be - NOT!

You think your exhasuted now - this is only the beginning!

That's a really cute idea - thanks Teresa! As for the exhaustion... I'm getting used to running on empty.
