My boss doesn't give feedback very much; typically the only thing I hear from him is when something goes wrong. I do appreciate knowing what his opinions are on what I am doing, both positive and negative, so that I can adjust and ensure he is happy with what I am doing, but I rarely hear anything at all. I'm getting used to the silence, though sometimes it still bothers me.
Tonight we had our third office birthday party in a month (!) for one of our staffers. Now, if I were the boss, we'd have one birthday party a month maximum. We have three of us who have our birthdays in the span of a week, and three more who celebrate theirs within 6 weeks of each other. That's just too much Happy Birthday singing and cake for anybody, in my humble opinion. But I digress...
As we were all standing around the kitchen waiting for dinner, the cook asked me, "Well done?" I was momentarily puzzled, not realizing she was asking about how I like my steak cooked.
The boss jumped in, "She is very well done!" Everyone laughed.
At that moment, it sunk in what she was asking me, and I corrected his statement to medium well. It only occurred to me later that perhaps that was a form of veiled praise from him, that he thinks I'm doing a good job?
Then again, it's more probable that I'm reading way too much into a joke he tried to make at my expense.

You are complaining??
You get a steak dinner with that cake!!
Each B-day celebration is with dinner??
That is way more than most businesses or even church offices do.
Be grateful!!
I can image what your office Christmas party will be like!
It does sounds like praise.
Take it any way you can get it!
Pax Christi,
Teresa B.
Take it and run!!
Teresa: No, the dinner was because they haven't had a staff dinner in over 6 months (since Easter). The birthday cake was separate. And you're right - I shouldn't complain.
