Hello?

Thursday, October 2, 2008
These are just some of the more interesting phone calls I have had to make as part of my job:

- Calling the Philippines to find out from a baptismal record whether or not an individual was confirmed or not
- Calling a hospital to book a chapel for a convalidation of marriage for a dying spouse
- Calling the chancery to find out whether recently deceased newborns baptized in hospital are to be recorded in our parish baptismal records or not
- Calling a priest in a neighboring town to beg to borrow an icon for one night only, when it has been promised to another parish
- Calling a Catholic parent to explain that a 14-year-old child should have received First Communion already ... somewhere around 7 years ago
- Calling a parent in a neighboring city to learn how to make coffee (!)

So sad about having to call about the baptism records of the poor deceased infants. That must have been a difficult call.

K: Will do, thanks! :) I don't drink coffee so I don't make coffee either...

A: It wasn't my favorite call, for sure. Fortunately I was the third party removed from the situation so I was calling on behalf of someone else and treated it like a research call, rather than getting emotionally involved. I found it harder arranging the convalidation for the dying spouse since I was closer to that situation.
