This is what the Pope's bed looks like.
Well, one of the many, many beds I'm sure John Paul II slept in over the course of his papacy.
It wasn't unbearably soft as I had first feared getting into it. It must have had some drooping in the middle because it is propped up in the centre with a pile of wood. It seems to do the trick.
It's very European to mention the bed at all, when I think about it. When I spent a summer in Germany, I discovered to my amusement that there were signs all over the cities exclaiming, "Goethe slept here _1_ night(s)." Homeowners had the number of nights etched in to increase their properties' value and prestige. In some places it seemed like Goethe had had a very active sleeping life as he seemed to have been in just about everybody's house.
Everywhere I look - and I do mean everywhere - there are monuments to JPII and his visit to this country, in various languages even. It's quite impressive. A little bit like a time capsule or a moment that got frozen in time.
I decided to wander home to my own cozy abode to get some food this morning. That's something I can't seem to find in the museum and something that even if I could find, I would feel uncomfortable about taking. I did help myself to two slices of bread and a little crunchy peanut butter this morning or else the stomach wouldn't have been quite up for commuting. Otherwise, I'll bring back enough to last me through tomorrow.

Looks comfy:)
And just think, you have your own private chapel for the whole weekend - talk about peaceful:)
It's true! I got the vibe that I should stick to my "quarters" though so I have really only poked around the kitchen and stuck to the bedroom apartment. I feel like an intruder... Oh wait, that's what the alarm company called me when I set the sirens blaring... ;)
I think you should definitely leave a note on your guest room door: "Workister slept here 3 nights."
He he!
lol - I did consider signing their guestbook... after all the bishops and cardinals who signed it :)
