So much for a day off! My weekend is very truncated this time around because in the absence of the pastor and with the associate having a wedding to do, I am left to run the baptism course for new parents.
I used my one day off very productively, doing about five hours of errands -- shopping and delivering baked goods around the city -- and about four hours making those baked goods. That's right, I broke in the new food processor and made two carrot cakes, which I subsequently delivered to two different religious communities.
I called the first about an hour in advance and asked if it was okay for me to drop something off. I was greeted at the door by the individual who knew I was coming and who was ready to receive the cake, dressed only in his pajamas. Since he knew I was coming you'd think he'd at least put on a pair of pants, but I digress... Turns out it was their community's feast day so I very coincidentally provided them with a treat for dessert.
I called the second community with about an hour notice, saying I would be there just to drop something off. I finally arrived, rang the doorbell twice (which turns out was broken), knocked three times and was just about ready to leave the cakes on the doorstep when the individual I spoke to there finally heard me and accepted the cake. Sometimes you can't win.
After all that running I'm sad to say I didn't even get a single slice of cake for myself. I guess that will have to be a project for another weekend.
