Our parish has been lacking a crucifix in the sanctuary since its inception. Recently, a religious community gifted a crucifix to us which, I think, has added a beautiful touch to the area above the presidential chair since it was erected last week.
One of those who was instrumental in the donation process came to see the installed crucifix later in the week. While he was there admiring it, one of our elderly parishioners came up to him, praying the Rosary. The encounter went as follows, according to him.
She asked, "What's that?"
"A crucifix," he explained.
"Who is that?" she queried.
"It's Jesus," he said.
"Why is he looking down like that?" was the next question.
"He's dead," he told her, holding back his natural response, "Did you expect him to be tap dancing?!"
