Patronal Feast

Today is my patronal feast day. Since the year I was confirmed, I haven't missed a St. Lucy's Day Mass.

Since the parish I now call home (and work!) does not have a Mass on Saturdays, I had to think long and hard about where I would go to worship. After tossing a coin, I opted to go to my previous parish. Better the devil you know, I reasoned.

My "favourite" presider was there, ad-libbing his way through the Mass and making statements about the Lord's Prayer being primarily about how we ought to forgive others, since God forgives us, and making comments during his homily about how Lucy was only prayed to in the Medieval Era as a patron of those with eye problems. Today, we remember her for her ability to speak the truth (and the eye thing, according to him, is just old and irrelevant). Despite this idiocy, I bit my tongue, fulfilled my patronal obligations and thanked Lucy for her intercessions when I needed her -- not for speaking the truth, ironically, but for her interventions in my eye problems.

Guess I should have gone with the devil I didn't know.

St. Lucy, pray for us.
