Last night's diocesan-wide event went very well. Everyone arrived when they were supposed to, did what they were supposed to and even went above and beyond, in many cases, to make last night very successful and prayerful for the 450+ people who came from across the region and beyond. People travelled up to three hours to participate in the choir and to help others to pray. A vanload of people were even there from my childhood parish; that was a great surprise! Fortunately, many of our own parishioners came to have a look too, even though this was their first experience with the event, and several of those pitched in to help me in ways I didn't expect.
At the very end of the night the guest of honour was getting ready to leave and he stopped to praise my organizational skills. He had hinted during the day that he would love to host a longer event with us; I sort of laughed and said he'd have to run that one by my boss. Then he said that this was one of the most beautiful prayers he had ever attended. I was touched to the very core. He gave me a couple of tokens of appreciation from his community, and off he went. The rest of us finished cleaning up and I was home before midnight, though I need to return today to take down our outdoor signage I forgot about and to do some organization so our trip on Monday to return borrowed items goes smoothly.
