Today was one of those days when I should have listened to my body and just stayed in bed.
To be fair, the morning wasn't bad. I got a few things accomplished in the office, and the boss gave me a new responsibility. He asked me to do the very initial assessment of engaged couples. If I deem them worthy to pass onto the pastor, they will be allowed to continue the process. If I don't deem them worthy for any number of factors, I will turn them away and he doesn't have to deal with them at all. Works for me. I'm developing a bit of a callous side as I turn away unsuitable people for baptisms, too.
As is my routine on Mondays I had an early lunch (just a sandwich and some fruit) at my desk and got everything set up for the sports camp.
Let me just say that I have never, ever been happier to know that next Monday is a holiday, i.e. no sports camp and a two week break from this ministry. Those kids ran me ragged today. It started early, with one kid, literally seconds into a game of floor hockey, knocking another kid in the nose so she was all swollen and in need of an icepack intervention. Then there were twisted ankles, at least two temper tantrums, no one would listen to me, I had a kid deliberately hit a ball into my face, and to cap off a stellar afternoon, I pushed our foosball table back to its resting spot at the end of the day and in the process, snapped its leg right off.
Fabulous.
I confessed my misdeed to the boss, who I guess I should be glad just laughed about it.
There is not enough chocolate in the world to make that day hurt less.
