New Words

I have finally figured out why the boss wants to meet on a weekly basis. It gives him the opportunity, occasionally, to bounce ideas off me and get some sane feedback. The majority of the time, however, he wants me to remind him what we talked about during the last meeting, and anything he volunteered to do last time, he reassigns to me to do the following week.

Good delegation skills, Father.

I did, however, get him to agree to do something for me this week. Since he really wants our kids to experience some culture, I finally agreed to set up a lunch in a nice restaurant for them. I asked if, since it was his idea, would he be available to join us and assist with the supervision. He looked at the date on my sheet quizzically and asked, "Lupper?"

I explained my little joke on the calendar; since breakfast + lunch = brunch, and we would be taking the kids out to eat around 3pm, a late lunch + early supper would no doubt be called 'lupper'. Without a pause or a modicum of sarcasm and with complete sincerity, he said, "Okay, I can be there for lupper."

Hearing my own joke said without any humour whatsoever cracked me up, and it took me a minute to regain my composure. "Thanks for adopting my new word," I said, and I marked him down to participate.

Got to love the weekly meetings.
