A website I found says: "A chronic sesamoid fracture is a stress fracture—a hairline break usually caused by repetitive stress or overuse. A chronic sesamoid fracture produces longstanding pain in the ball of the foot beneath the big toe joint. The pain, which tends to come and go, generally is aggravated with activity and relieved with rest."
Bingo. And we finally have an answer, folks.
What this means, unfortunately, is that I could either use crutches for six weeks -- no, thank you -- or wear an air cast. I bussed myself across the city to pick up my oh-so-fashionable bootie and am finally home to eat lunch before I return to work at 1pm.
All I want for Christmas is to walk again...
