Christmas, Christmastime is here

The Christmas marathon is about an hour away from commencing. I have been up, done laundry, cleaned, packed, cleaned myself up, and am putting the final touches on things here before I head to work for our annual Christmas luncheon. The boss has agreed to drive me home afterwards, pick up my crutches and take them over to the office for me.

I will rest for a couple of hours before I return to the office for Christmas Eve dinner followed by our Family Mass, of which I am in charge. I have a little Mary and Joseph to dress up, five altar servers to dress up in their new vestments, and a choir to lead through "Mary, Did You Know?" I am very much looking forward to it.

After that Mass is done and cleaned up, I will have a couple of hours of downtime before we prepare for midnight Mass. I will head home at 12:01am once those servers are confidently dressed in their new gear, the Mass is underway and I have said "Merry Christmas!" 1000 times, sleep for about 5 hours before I return to open the church for our early Mass and to say "Merry Christmas!" 1500 more times over the next four Masses. I already know in advance I will be head usher at one Mass and an Extraordinary Minister on special assignment to the choir loft at another Mass, and I'll be on hand to dress up our servers and fill in for vacant ministerial assignments as needed throughout the rest of the day.

After all is said and done, I will be on my way home to my family for Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations, and a long winter's nap.

Merry Christmas to one and all!
