Happy New Year!

Happy 2010, everyone! I attended Mass last night with my friend for the feast of Mary, the Mother of God where the presider told us to let go of past indiscretions, mistakes and pain, and bring in the new year and decade with much joy and hope in our hearts. That is my prayer for everyone I know and care about this year.

After Mass, we went out for dinner at what turned out to be a bit of a questionable spot for a romantic themed dinner, but we had fun because of the company despite the loud music and quasi-suspicious food. Instead of going downtown to celebrate with fireworks, we opted to avoid the crowd, the rain and the cold and instead share a cozy night in with wine, truffles, board games and fireworks on TV. It was lovely.

This morning I "rang" in the New Year in a rather unexpected way -- at 8:25am the fire alarms were blaring throughout the building, jolting me from a restful half-sleep. I went out on the balcony to see if I could see any flames pouring forth like last time, and I could not, so I opted to stay on the balcony rather than attempt to transverse over 20 flights of stairs with a cast and a broken foot. Most of my neighbours did the same, and 20 minutes later the alarms were silenced and we're back to normal.

Happy 2010!
