Racing Through Sunday

Sunday, January 10, 2010
It was a busy day in ministry today, but a successful one. All our programs restarted today so I taught my Vatican II course, organized the children's Mass and had a youth group meeting. We're now up to 22 students, something I could hardly have imagined just 16 months ago when only four siblings were dragged into the first meeting by their mother.

Today we went a little wild to mark the new year and ran a race all over the property. I had the kids eating strained peas, wearing beards made out of cottonballs and held on by Vaseline, and had them assembling flashlights in the dark to find their next clue. They seemed to enjoy it despite their protests about my gross food choices. At the end, in order to get a couple of kids to sing a song they composed about the parish, a couple of our student leaders had to agree to don cottonball beards. Somehow it never occurred to the kids to try to coerce me into wearing a beard or eating strained peas ... I didn't make that suggestion to them, obviously ;)

And we're back in business. The quiet is over. I start my almost weekly school visits tomorrow and I am starting a course on First Reconciliation and First Communion for a group of older children. Our tutoring club launches again tomorrow too. At least I won't be bored for a while!
