I'm considering myself very blessed this morning as I wake up to news of a large blackout in the city. One of the boundaries of the affected area is literally at the end of my street, so I'm one of the lucky ones who happens to live on the right side of the street (for a change!)
I tried to call a few of my friends who live nearby on the wrong side of the street but didn't manage to get a hold of them. Hopefully they've abandoned their homestead in the face of this likely 24-hour blackout, meaning no heat in this -20C weather; if they hadn't, I was going to invite them here.
My plans for the day have changed with no subway service or lights on at a few places I had intended to go, but I'm suddenly quite thankful I have a warm place to stay on a very cold day.
