An Update

Tuesday, January 27, 2009
Things have been quiet here because they have been anything but quiet in my workistry. After the Lunar New Year party on Saturday night, I worked a ten-hour day on Sunday with four Masses followed by my Youth Group, and I came home and collapsed into bed shortly thereafter. Monday morning found me running errands before my usual afternoon/evening tutoring shift, after which I came home and collapsed into bed shortly thereafter. Today I was expecting a school Mass in the morning, but a serious lack of communication amongst pastoral team members left me to discover it had been cancelled while on a school visit, by overhearing a PA announcement. Consequently, I decided to stick to my morning shift because I figured I would be at the hospital most of the afternoon awaiting a visit with a surgeon about the gallbladder. Fortunately she was virtually on time and I was in and out in thirty minutes and back at work within the hour, leaving me doing another 11 hour day after a meeting of the Pastoral Bored Committee tonight (sorry) and running around acting as the hostess for a social in the afternoon. I am sure tonight I will again come home and collapse into bed shortly thereafter.

The surgeon's visit was quick and painless in all senses of the word. She agreed I need to be removed from my gallbladder, which she says is in spasm and that's why I have been experiencing intermittent pain. Surgery could be as early as a month from now, but I have asked to postpone that to either two or three months from now because of my work schedule; I guess it is such a major surgery I will be off work for 10-14 days and it's hard to find that many days where I am not responsible for anything major at the church. My boss, thankfully, was very understanding and has suggested I have it done as soon as I can, preferably during Holy Week when my services are not crucial. So, if all goes according to plan, I will be temporarily decommissioned right around the time of my one year anniversary here.

The rest of the week looks quiet after the rescheduled school Mass tomorrow. I have a short weekend again thanks to another parish-wide function, but thankfully, I won't be fully responsible for this one and there are no roast pigs involved.

"Pastoral Bored Committee"
LOL!

Did your body determine that you will have some sort of medical issue each year?

Holy Week will then mean you will be recovered for Pentecost - does your parish do Confirmations that weekend?

I will keep praying for the gall bladder and you. Hoping that the loss won't be too emotional on you.

Pax Christi,
Teresa B.
